Junior Secondary Curriculum - Subjects and Courses for Years 8 to 10 (Middle Years in a Secondary setting)

The secondary curriculum in years 7 – 10 in the ACT schools forms part of a continuum of learning from Kindergarten to year 12. 

 Courses in years 7 – 10 curriculum

 In the ACT, curriculum development is school based and is supported by system curriculum documents.  All high schools offer courses from year 7 to year 10.

 The range of courses offered in ACT government and non-government high schools is approved by the board of each school. 

Are there mandatory junior secondary curriculum requirements in the ACT?

 The only mandatory junior secondary curriculum requirement in the ACT is in Health, Physical Education and Sport. 

 Although not mandatory, all schools require students to include English and Mathematics in their program of study.  Other courses such as Science, Studies of Society and the Environment, Arts, Technology and Languages are also offered in schools.
